Since starting the business in 2021, 406 BBQ has garnered a loyal following of BBQ fans from all over Montana. We have been featured in the Flathead Beacon and the Daily Interlake and have amassed a 5-star rating on Facebook, Google, and Yelp.

Military veteran Stephen Kina’s passion for barbeque took him from accountant to pitmaster faster than you can say pulled pork. Stephen was inspired by watching his father, Jason Kina, work tirelessly from line cook to earning the prestigious position of Executive Chef. He is always learning and experimenting with new ways to bring the most delicious barbeque and the best experience to the Flathead Valley. When he’s not cooking, you can find him spending time with his family or giving back to the community through his church.

Stephen’s father and inspiration, Executive Chef Jason Kina, has over 30 years of experience as a chef and over 15 years of holding the title Executive Chef, specifically at the former AAA Four Diamond JW Marriott Ihilani Resort and Spa at Ko Olina. Chef Kina also brought his experience to the Santa Clara Marriott and opened the Bosc + Barlett restaurant. Chef Kina’s extensive resume highlights includes providing culinary experiences for Former President Obama and other World Leaders at the Asia Pacific Economic Conference and Payton Manning and the Denver Broncos during their stay during Super Bowl 50. Currently, Chef Kina is the Executive Chef at Whitefish Mountain Resort.
